On May 5, 2026, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners, approved a new incentive designed to improve safety and strengthen commercial corridors within the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) CRA and Central City CRA districts. The newly established Property Safety Enhancement Program (PSEP) will provide eligible commercial property owners, business tenants, and nonprofit organizations located within the CRA boundaries with the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for security and safety improvements. Developed in collaboration with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Environmental Crime Unit, the program utilizes Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to help deter crime, improve visibility, enhance security, and create safer environments for businesses, employees, customers, and the surrounding community. The New Hope Affordable Housing development is a planned investment in the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) Community Redevelopment Area, bringing high-quality, affordable living options to the Sistrunk Boulevard corridor. Located at 1316 Sistrunk Boulevard, the project is anticipated to feature a six-story residential building with 30 affordable rental apartments and ground-floor parking. The  Residential Enhancement Program program provides up to $10,000 in financial assistance for approved, street-visible exterior improvements that enhance the appearance, safety, and overall condition of single-family homes. Eligible improvements may include exterior painting, landscaping, fencing, exterior lighting, and driveway repairs. All improvements must receive written CRA approval prior to the start of work. To qualify, applicants must be the legal property owner and reside in a single-family home located within the NPF CRA boundaries.
