Groundbreaking Celebrates The Alridge & The Laramore Affordable Housing Developments

Community leaders, City of Fort Lauderdale elected officials, neighborhood stakeholders, and development partners gathered on May 13, 2026, to celebrate the groundbreaking of The Alridge and The Laramore, two transformative mixed-use affordable housing developments that will bring new housing and economic opportunities to the historic Sistrunk corridor. The ceremony was especially meaningful as family members of Sylvia H. Aldridge were in attendance to honor her enduring contributions to the community and celebrate the project bearing her name.

Together, The Alridge and The Laramore  projects will introduce 72 affordable housing units and approximately 4,400 square feet of ground-floor commercial space within the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) Community Redevelopment Area. The projects consist of two five-story, green-certified buildings, each containing 36 residential units and modern amenities, including structured parking with controlled access, enhanced security features, and energy-efficient design elements. The developments are named in honor of two influential figures whose legacies helped shape the Sistrunk community. The Alridge pays tribute to Sylvia H. Aldridge, one of Fort Lauderdale’s first African American entrepreneurs, a Sistrunk business owner, and the first president of the Dillard High School PTA. The Laramore honors David N. Laramore, a Bahamian seminarian and community leader who founded St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and helped establish Elks Lodge No. 652.

At the heart of the project is a commitment to expanding access to quality affordable housing. All 72 units will be reserved for households earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for a minimum of 30 years. The developments will feature a mix of thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom apartments, with rents anticipated to be approximately $1,100 for one-bedroom units and $1,350 for two-bedroom units, helping provide attainable housing opportunities for working individuals and families.Beyond housing, the project also focuses on long-term economic revitalization. Invest Fort Lauderdale, the CRA’s economic development entity and co-developer on the project, will lead the activation and leasing of the ground-floor commercial space to help attract and support small businesses and neighborhood-serving retail uses.

The Alridge and The Laramore are being developed through a public-private partnership led by Sistrunk Apartments, LLC, in collaboration with Magellan Housing, LLC, with Royal American serving as the project’s general contractor. The project is supported through a comprehensive financing structure that reflects both public investment and private sector participation. The CRA has committed $9,000,000 in funding, alongside an additional $750,000 contribution from the City of Fort Lauderdale Housing Department, and other financing sources, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity. Together, the combined public investment from the CRA and the City totals $9,750,000, helping support what is now an approximately $42 million mixed-use development.
