Community leaders, City of Fort Lauderdale elected officials, neighborhood stakeholders, and development partners gathered on May 13, 2026, to celebrate the groundbreaking of The Alridge and The Laramore, two transformative mixed-use affordable housing developments that will bring new housing and economic opportunities to the historic Sistrunk corridor.The ceremony was especially meaningful as family members of Sylvia H. On May 5, 2026, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners, approved a new incentive designed to improve safety and strengthen commercial corridors within the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) CRA and Central City CRA districts. The newly established Property Safety Enhancement Program (PSEP) will provide eligible commercial property owners, business tenants, and nonprofit organizations located within the CRA boundaries with the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for security and safety improvements. Developed in collaboration with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Environmental Crime Unit, the program utilizes Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to help deter crime, improve visibility, enhance security, and create safer environments for businesses, employees, customers, and the surrounding community. The New Hope Affordable Housing development is a planned investment in the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) Community Redevelopment Area, bringing high-quality, affordable living options to the Sistrunk Boulevard corridor. Located at 1316 Sistrunk Boulevard, the project is anticipated to feature a six-story residential building with 30 affordable rental apartments and ground-floor parking. Each unit is designed as a two-bedroom, two-bathroom residence of approximately 900 square feet, with a full kitchen, living and dining areas, and a private outdoor balcony.
