CRA Board Approves $2.5 Million in Funding for New Holy Cross Health Center

On August 18, 2026, the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners approved $2.5 million in Development Incentive Program funding for Holy Cross Health to support the development of a new comprehensive outpatient center, ambulatory surgery center, and freestanding emergency department at 200 East Sunrise Boulevard. The project represents an estimated $83.8 million capital investment in the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) CRA and is expected to expand access to healthcare services, create new jobs, and support continued redevelopment within the area.

The new two-story healthcare facility will include an 11,721-square-foot freestanding emergency department with 12 treatment rooms and diagnostic imaging services, including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scanning. The first floor will also include a 10,071-square-foot medical clinic with 18 exam rooms, primary and specialty care services, and a dedicated MRI suite. The second floor will feature a 20,000-square-foot outpatient and ambulatory surgery center that will include an operating room suite and outpatient physical therapy suite. The project will also include a 141-space enclosed parking structure with a covered connection to the healthcare center.

Medical specialties anticipated at the new center include orthopedics, primary care, sports medicine, cardiology, and obstetrics and gynecology. The development will be completed in two consecutive phases. The first phase will include the medical and outpatient center, freestanding emergency department, parking structure, and shell of the overall facility. The second phase will include the buildout of the outpatient and ambulatory surgery center.

Supporting Economic Growth and Job Creation

The CRA-approved funding includes $1.5 million for the initial phase and $1 million for the second phase. CRA funds will be provided to Holy Cross on a reimbursement basis for eligible hard construction costs following completion of each phase. The project is expected to create approximately 115 jobs during the initial phase and an additional 85 jobs during the second phase, providing new employment opportunities within the CRA. The project also represents a significant private investment in the redevelopment area and is expected to contribute to continued revitalization and attract additional investment and healthcare providers.

Expanding Healthcare Access in the Community

The new center will complement the existing Holy Cross Health Center located at the L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center on Sistrunk Boulevard. That location currently provides community health and wellness services including family medicine, preventive care, pediatric and adult immunizations, wellness visits, health education, diabetes and obesity management, nutrition counseling, and other community-based services.Holy Cross Health’s goal is to expand access to healthcare services in an area of Fort Lauderdale experiencing continued residential and economic growth, including the NPF CRA and surrounding neighborhoods.

Community Benefits

The project will also provide several community benefits. Holy Cross Health has committed to funding two to five scholarships annually for residents living within the CRA boundary who participate in medical technical training programs at Broward College. Holy Cross has also indicated that underused parking spaces in the new parking garage may be made available to nearby businesses and other users during off-peak hours.Additional site improvements will include enhanced landscaping and pedestrian features along the street frontage, native shade trees, improved drainage, and environmental remediation of the property.

The project has received development approval for both phases, and building permits have been approved for the first phase. Site work has already begun, with the first phase anticipated to be completed by fall 2027 and the second phase expected to be completed by 2029. The investment supports the CRA’s mission to encourage redevelopment, attract private investment, expand community services, and improve the economic and physical environment within the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights CRA.
