CRA Board Approves Property Safety Enhancement Program for Commercial Corridors

On May 5, 2026, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners, approved a new incentive designed to improve safety and strengthen commercial corridors within the Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights (NPF) CRA and Central City CRA districts. The newly established Property Safety Enhancement Program (PSEP) will provide eligible commercial property owners, business tenants, and nonprofit organizations located within the CRA boundaries with the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for security and safety improvements.

Developed in collaboration with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Environmental Crime Unit, the program utilizes Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to help deter crime, improve visibility, enhance security, and create safer environments for businesses, employees, customers, and the surrounding community. Through the program, eligible applicants may receive reimbursement for up to 75 percent of approved project costs, with funding available up to $10,000 per property.

Eligible improvements may include interior and exterior security enhancements intended to reduce criminal activity and improve overall property safety. Additional program details, eligibility requirements, and application information will be released in the coming days. Interested property owners, businesses, and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to stay tuned, as applications for the Property Safety Enhancement Program will be opening soon.
