On May 21, 2019, the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners approved a $3 million incentive award to Avenue D ‘Arts FLL, LLC for the development of a Comfort Suites hotel. The CRA Board also authorized the sale of CRA- owned property to the developers. The CRA-owned property will be combined with adjacent land already owned by the developer to construct the new hotel. The new hotel, to be located at the NW corner of Avenue of the Arts and NW 3rd Street is within walking distance from the Brightline-Virgin train station and the first hotel project west of the Florida East Coast Railway. Hoover Canvas Products, a manufacturer of awnings, received approval for $1.1 million in incentives from the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).The CRA Board approved the funding on May 7, 2019, to help the company renovate and expand its facility  located at  900 N.W. Ninth Avenue (Powerline Road). The renovations will allow the Fort Lauderdale operation to remain open and grow, fostering economic growth by increasing the company's productivity and output; prevent the loss of existing jobs; as well as increase job creation in  the CRA area. A new restaurant is coming to Sistrunk Blvd with support from the CRA. On May 8, 2019, Mayor Dean Trantalis, Vice Mayor Robert McKinzie, the CRA along with friends and neighbors celebrated the start of construction on Smitty’s Wings.The locally owned and operated restaurant, will specialize in signature chicken wings and flavorful sauces; while creating a dining destination,providing job opportunities and improving the quality of life in the Redevelopment Area. The restaurant will be located at 1134 Sistrunk Blvd. Renovations will include interior and exterior improvements. Examples of the improvements are a new kitchen,seating for 50 patrons, a bar and an outdoor patio. Smitty’s Wings is owned and operated by former State Senator Christopher L.
