On November 1 , 2022, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners approved a  CRA incentive to Cravemadness, LLC for  the build-out of the Jamaican Jerk Shack. The new  restaurant will  occupy three bays at the  Shoppes on Arts Avenue fronting Sistrunk Boulevard with a total of 1,750 square feet. Jamaican Jerk Shack will provide quality American and Caribbean food to the Sistrunk and Fort Lauderdale area. The fast-casual eat-in restaurant will specialize in Jamaican jerk chicken, pork, buffalo wings, handcrafted burgers, freshly prepared signature salads, seasoned fries, wraps and shrimp tossed in any of their 24 flavors. On November 2, 2022 a celebratory groundbreaking ceremony was held with City of Fort Lauderdale officials  to mark the commencement of construction on the Adderley Apartments. The mixed-use  multi-family development will be located in Fort Lauderdale’s Northwest neighborhood at the intersection of Sistrunk Boulevard and Avenue of the Arts.  The development is named in honor of the late, great jazz artist Julian Edwin “Cannon Ball” Adderley. The Adderley will consist of two 6-story residential structures with a mix of studios, 1 &2 bedroom apartments and townhomes. The transformative development will offer 417 rental units for working individuals and families. Of the homes, 10 percent will be set aside for affordable housing for families with incomes not to exceed 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Kenzie Award by the Florida Redevelopment Association (FRA) for Best Outstanding New Building Project for its investment in the newly built L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center. This statewide recognition is a great achievement  for the City of Fort Lauderdale and the L.A. Lee YMCA / Mizell Community Center. The FRA Awards are presented each year at the association’s annual conference and recognize outstanding achievement in a variety of categories, from annual reports to cultural enhancement. The entries are examined for effectiveness and completeness – including the narrative, supplemental material and compliance with the submittal instructions. On September 22, 2022, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners approved an additional  $416,900 in CRA incentives  for the renovation and expansion of the Robert Bethel American Legion Post #220, located at 1455 Sistrunk Boulevard. The expanded facility will include a large meeting area that can be rented by veterans  and the public for special events. The Board of Commissioners also waived the maximum funding amount and percentage of funding eligible for project costs under the Property and Business Improvement Program (PBIP). The PBIP is a CRA incentive  used to attract and grow businesses located within the Northwest, Progresso, and Flagler Village neighborhoods.  The forgivable  loan is available to assist with capital improvements for the interior and exterior of properties.
