Fort Lauderdale financial summit to address business, home loans

If you’re looking for a business or home loan, you can learn about opportunities during a two-day financial summit in Fort Lauderdale.

The Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency is hosting the event from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday and Saturday.

Business owners, homeowners and prospective homebuyers across South Florida are welcome to attend, though the focus will be on the CRA’s Fort Lauderdale Village District, which includes the Historic Sistrunk, Progresso Village and Flagler Village neighborhoods.

Friday is designed for small businesses, retailers and commercial entities. A panel of experts will discuss sources of capital, and business owners can meet individually with commercial lenders.

After the Friday program ends, the CRA will take the lenders on a trolley tour of Historic Sistrunk, said Jonathan Brown, manager of the CRA.

In recent years, Brown said, concerns have been raised that lenders aren’t willing to offer financing in the Sistrunk corridor, which is bordered by Sunrise Boulevard to the north, Broward Boulevard to the south, Ninth Avenue to the east and 24th Avenue to the west.

“We want to show them what’s going on so that they’ll go back to their superiors and show some excitement about lending in this area,” Brown said.

On Saturday, residential lenders will offer tips on refinancing and obtaining mortgages and home improvement loans.

Lenders scheduled to attend one or both days include the Broward Chapter of Mortgage Professionals, Brightstar Credit Union, Florida Community Bank, PNC Bank, Suntrust Bank, the US Small Business Association, Broward Housing Solutions and Wells Fargo.

The Friday seminar will be at the Old Dillard Museum, 1009 NW 4th St. Midtown Commerce Center, 1033 Sistrunk Blvd., will be the site on Saturday.

The CRA says its goal is to help targeted areas improve and expand through new commercial and residential projects.
